Quando usar do ou make?
Todos já pensaram sobre isso em algum momento, uma das muitas expressões em que não temos certeza se devemos usar make ou do.
É normal, existem muitos e não há regras claras e confiáveis para isso. Por isso me dediquei a compilar algumas das principais, embora haja muitas exceções, mas como guia elas são muito úteis. Em outros casos, só temos que memorizar a opção correta.
Usamos do nos seguintes casos:
1) Para os afazeres de casa: do the laundry, do the housework, do the dishes, do the chores, do the cleaning, exceto make the bed. Se falamos em fazer comida ou bebida, usamos make: make a cake, make dinner, make lunch, make a steak… ou make a cup of coffee ou tea. Embora haja também alguma exceção: do the cooking.
2) Quando valorizamos uma ação ou perguntamos sobre ela: do well/ bad/great… ou do nothing/something/anything.
Make é usado, além dos exemplos discutidos acima, nos seguintes casos:
1) Quando se fala em criar, fazer ou fabricar. Por exemplo: make a cake ou make a sandcastle.
2) Quando você fala sobre a reação que algo produz para alguém: make me crazy, make you happy, make me smile, etc.
3) Com expressões como make a speech/suggestion/comment/request…
4) Quando falamos sobre o material de que algo é feito, sua origem ou quem é o autor: made in China, made from oil, made by myself…
